A shallow dish on a low pedestal foot — for a cake, a few pieces of fruit, or whatever you keep beside the bed. The whole of the wide rim is carved with lilies running head to tail; the well in the middle is left as plain dark glaze so that anything you set down has a quiet ground.

Raising it on a foot changes how it reads on a table: it stops being a plate and starts being a small stand.

On the base, the pattern is written out in Chinese — 雲水三千 — with Zhao Ruyan beneath.

The underside of the dish, the pattern name written in Chinese characters with Zhao Ruyan signed beneath

The maker’s mark
